The Meandering Michigan Winery Tour
by Kevin Graham

A supplement to the October/November 2004 issue of Decatur Magazine, page 62.

Vineyards have increased 24 percent since 1997 to 13,500 acres, making Michigan the fourth largest grape-growing state in the country. About 1,500 acres are devoted to wine grapes, placing the state eighth in wine grape production. According to the Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council, there are 40 commercial wineries producing more than 200,000 cases of wine annually, attracting more than 600,000 tourists and contributing $75 million to the state’s economy per year.
